About us

We celebrated 50 years in Tucson in 2023!

The Danish Club of Tucson is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to observing, preserving and promoting the customs and history of Denmark. Our members are enthusiastic about sharing our cultural heritage through get-together events, such as an out-about-town Happy Danes gathering, or meeting at the local Danish bakery, activities such coloring Easter eggs together in the park to give away, and educational programs in our meetings with guests and any public persons who are interested.

Come join us in celebrating all things Danish in the beautiful city of Tucson, Arizona.

Danish HYGGE, loved by all:

Danes have a lifestyle of Hygge.

Hygge is a Danish and Norwegian word that means a cozy, comfortable, and contented mood. It is pronounced "hoo-gah".

Hygge is about creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying life's simple pleasures with loved ones. It can include:

  • Spending time with family and friends
  • Having a candle-lit dinner
  • Curling up by a fire
  • Sharing a meal and drinks
  • Taking a break from the daily rush
  • Celebrating the small joys of life

The word hygge has been used in English writing since the mid-20th century. It is also a popular trend in design and home decor, with items like candles and blankets marketed as hygge-inspired.

The word hygge has origins in the Old Norse language, where a similar word meant "protected from the outside world".

The tradition of using candles and fires to create a hygge atmosphere may be connected to the long, dark winters in the Nordic region.

At the Danish Club of Tucson, we are passionate about preserving and sharing the rich customs and history of Denmark. Through various events and activities, such celebration of holidays and traditions of Denmark we aim to connect individuals with Danish heritage and promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of Danish culture. Join us and become a part of our tight-knit community!

Preserving Danish Culture Together

Dear readers, As the Danish Club of Tucson, we are proud to share the customs and history of Denmark with our community.

Our non-profit organization is dedicated to promoting Danish culture and heritage in the Tucson area, and we believe that our unique offerings make us the perfect choice for anyone looking to learn more about Denmark.

First and foremost, our club is run by passionate individuals who have a deep connection to Denmark and a strong desire to share it with others.

The Danish Club of Tucson was started by a pastor with Danish heritage. He found Danes when conducting hospital visitation and he hunted through the phone book looking for Danish last names. Upon finding a small interested group, they began meeting in homes.
